Preparing for Carpet Cleaning and Upholstery Cleaning

furniture cleaning

Here’s a short list of steps you can take to prepare your home for carpet cleaning and to make our
job a little bit easier:

• Take a look around. Make a note of any stains or problem areas that you will need to point out to us when we arrive. Now is a good time to see if additional areas need cleaning too.
• Pick up any toys or clothes from the floor of your kids rooms.
• Move pictures, lamps or other breakables in rooms we’re cleaning.
• If you have questions about what furniture we can move, please call our office.
• If possible, leave the parking spot closest to your front door open so that we can more easily get our equipment into the house.
• If you need to cancel or move your appointment, please try to give us at least 24 hours notice so that we may refill your appointment time.

Fine Fabric & Upholstery Cleaning
Often times it seems that while the floors get vacuumed, the tile gets mopped and the counters
are wiped down; the upholstery in our homes is simply overlooked. Take a quick glance around
your home and think about the last time that your sofa, loveseat or favorite recliner was cleaned
by a professional. For many folks the answer is never.

Upholstered furniture is commonly the most popular seating in a home and over time, dirt and
residue from clothing, pets and dust in the air are deposited on upholstery. Cheerios falling from
little hands get crushed on the cushions, while comfortable jeans bring in a little dust from the
garden and end up lounging on the couch.

The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration recommend that upholstery be cleaned by a
certified professional every 12 to 24 months, depending on the use and soiling of the surface.
However, routine care of upholstered furniture in between visits from Select Floor Care is of the
utmost importance to the lifespan of your pieces.

How Do I Keep it Clean?
While vacuuming the carpet, take time to use the wand attachment and gently vacuum the
upholstered surfaces in your home as well. Keeping tabs on surface dirt and contaminants will
help avoid severe soiling that could endanger the original color, texture and quality of the
upholstery.
Accidental spills should be cleaned immediately by soaking up the remaining liquid and treating
stains with following the tips and tricks found on our Water Based Stain Guide, Coffee, Tea or
Urine Stain Guide, or Greasy Stain Guide.
