Chicago Plainfield DIY- Cleaning your carpet right

DIY-Cleaning your carpet right             *By Steve Samoska
If you want to clean your home or business carpet or furniture and you cannot afford a professional steam carpet cleaner with a truck mount unit follow these rules I made to insure you won’t create a bigger mess on your carpet or upholstery.
Also don’t forget that to make sure your warranty (upholstery, carpet) you must clean with a  Professional CertifiedCarpet Cleaners at least every 18 months with how water extraction (steam) same thing.

1. Take your time thoroughly vacuum Make sure your vacuum filter is clean and vacuum is working properly! Many people vacuum fabrics and the vacuum is not working properly this is a common thing. Vacuum the carpet and upholstery all areas you want to clean- make sure you take your time doing it.  Most of the soil on carpets is deep down soil, dander, and pollen.
2. Place all furniture and small belongings off the carpet if you want to do the proper job. Unless your cleaning the upholstery You can leave heavy stuff and focus on the traffic patterns.  I don’t recommend this because carpet is used as a filter for dust in your home in you will still have a ton of dust in your carpet or upholstery best to move everything if you want the job done right.
3. Pre-treat the areas with detergents traffic lane cleaner. Do not use soap or shampoo products PERIOD! Your carpet or upholstery will get 10 times faster soiled and 99% of the time the spots will come back.  I always say use a couple teaspoons on powder tide no liquid ever! that is soapy. You can use your shoe to kick the spots out don’t use brushes or scrub this breaks down the fibers and wears the carpet out this will cause the stains to be set in also later if you call a professional to get them out. This is very common. When I go to a house
4. After spraying you want to leave the product dwell at least 15 minutes which should be a detergent remember those soap or shampoo products this will only damage the carpet or upholstery and cause it to wrap it re-soil and 95% of the time the spots usually come back.
5. Heat up boiling water and rinse the carpet thoroughly with the boiling water and your machine remember only use water as hot as you can get it. If you are using this to clean upholstery you can use warm to hot water that boiling this will make sure you have no shrinkage of material and no colors bleed. If the upholstered fabric is a woven fabric or micro suede you can use the hot water steam boiling and you won’t have to worry.
6. Make sure you start from the back cleaning the carpet and work your way out of the room this way carpet is not walked on in the fiber stand up as they dry which will make the drying time a lot quicker especially if you put fans down when you’re done which is important when you’re cleaning yourself with a smaller machine because this machine does not have the vacuum left to extract the water that is put into the carpet or fabric when cleaning your furniture or upholstery you should always make sure that you do the corners edges and round areas around arms back some couches which a lot of times this is where the damage occurs because the tools that they give you when you rent the machine do not suck the water out thoroughly and usually cause water rings that do not come out of most furniture fabrics.

7. You can also spray a little fabric softener with water maybe a teaspoon to a court and the carpet all or upholstery to neutralize the fabric and hopefully if there is not a lot of residue the carpet or upholstery will try soft to touch.
8. Make sure you use fans to dry these fabrics this is one of the most important steps. If you can borrow fans or rent them to dry your fabrics and carpet can even borrow them from family members and friends or neighbors. This will make sure the carpets don’t turn brown from being wet too long or get a mildew smell. Also this will make sure your furniture does not have water rings all over them or color bleeding this is one of the most important steps when you’re cleaning your own carpet yourself or upholstery.
Please feel free to call me if you have any questions for you need some help I would be gladly able to walk you through it.
