DIY Carpet Cleaning- Tips from Steve Samoska!

home carpet cleaners

Although vacuum carpet cleaning can remove a majority of the dry soil, it is also necessary to clean your carpet on a frequent basis to remove the oily, sticky soil that builds up in the pile as a result of odors and dirt that is tracked in from outside.

If you can clean the carpet before it becomes too bad, the cleaning chore will be easier to do and a lot more successful.  There is a myth that is totally false, which states that cleaning the carpet before it is necessary will get it dirtier faster.

The carpet with the typical household should be cleaned every 12 - 18 months depending on the number of people living there and the amount of traffic that walks on the carpet.

The choice of the right vacuum is important as well.  There are some vacuums that will leave residues behind, which will promote re-soiling and basically defeat the whole purpose of household cleaning.

Professional carpet cleaners

It is in your best interest to use professional cleaners simply because their experience will enable them to do a much better job than you can do yourself. The equipment they use has more extraction power than the units available to you, and the carpet will dry faster as well.  They know the cleaning agents to use, and they know the differences in carpet construction and fibers.

Doing it yourself
If you have made the decision to rent a steam cleaning machine and do the job yourself, you should check on several systems before you make a selection.  Most of the units available for rent don't clean well enough and may end up damaging
your carpet.  Therefore, you should always consider the following:

¡  Several rental companies offer cleaning equipment that is similar to what the professionals use.  The equipment should have enough vacuum power to allow the carpet to dry within 12 hours of cleaning.  You should always avoid rental units found in retail and grocery stores that don't have the power to extract the cleaning solution from the carpet fast enough, as it can actually damage the carpet due to over wetting.
¡  Make sure you avoid over wetting the carpet.  Any prolonged dampness can lead to mildew growth and bacteria in the carpet, or cause a seperation of the backing.  A wet carpet that stays this way for longer than 24 hours can develop
problems.  You can control this by using proper equipment and the right training.
¡  Carpets that have stain resistant treatments have to be cleaned with products that are formulated for this very purpose, or the stain resistance will be impaired and the warranty will be voided.  Never use cleaning or spotting solutions that contain bleaches as they can mess up the color of the carpet.
¡  Never use any silicone based treatments on the carpet.
¡  You can help to reduce the drying time by using several fans to move the air around the carpet.  You can use a dehumidifier as well, as it will pull moisture from the air.

Hot water extraction
The hot water extraction system is highly recommended, as it considered to be one of the best methods for carpet cleaning.  Also known as steam cleaning, the process consists of spraying a mixture of water and detergent into the pile and recovering the
water and soil with a powerful vacuum that puts it into a holding tank.  You can use a truck mounted unit or a portable self contained unit as well.  This method is easily one of the best, and is ideal for soiled carpets or pet stains that you have yet to
get out of the fibers.

PLAINFIELD Pet Stain removal Service

odor removal

PLAINFIELD Pet Stains

As much as we love our pets, their normal functions can decimate our home’s furniture. Whether you own cement, wood, tile, or carpet flooring, urine odors will penetrate down to the floor. Even as urine dries and the liquid evaporates, the urine crystals become even more concentrated and pungent. Simply cleaning the stained area will not remove this odor. In fact, the urine crystals are reactivated by moisture.  On top of the odor, urine can also permanently damage the color of your floor. The urine does this by either adding color by dying the carpet fibers or removing color by releasing carpet dyes. In the only way to save your flooring and remediate the odors is through professional cleaning. Using our deep steam and ozone combination system, 1 Chicago Carpet Cleaners offers the most extensive extraction process to assure that your flooring and upholstery is restored to like-new condition. Pets are family members and no one ever wants to give up their favorite pet because of a few “accidents”. However these “accidents” will inevitably ruin carpets, leather and upholstery and cost their owners thousands to replace. Not to mention the odor can make a room unbearable to be in. Pet urine deposited on carpet will not only soil the surface but it will also penetrate the deep fibers fibers and contaminates both the backing of the carpet and the flooring material beneath. And pets will typically urinate continually in the same location causing significant damage to the area. But there is no need to fear because Plainfield’s best carpet cleaners will deep steam your carpets to rescue your upholstery and carpet from the trash. So call 1 Chicago Carpet cleaners today and allow us to wow you with your results.

How to Clean Your Own Carpet

“Is ‘removing the worst of the dirt’ what you actually want? or do you want a ‘full clean’ ?”
A ‘Maintenance Clean’ is where a cleaner does the bare minimum to remove ‘the worst of the dirt’ and nothing else.  Carpet Cleaning  is cheaper than a full clean, because it involves a lot less work and really is only half a job. Problem stains such as Oil & Grease, Chocolate, Red Wine, Coffee, Food Colouring, Ink, Make-up and the dark ‘soot’ type dirt you get around carpet edges are not removed with a maintenance clean.

Each of those different types of stain have to be treated individually by hand, which is why using a carpet cleaning machine on it’s own will not work. You remove Red Wine for example by using an alkaline based solution, where as to remove Mascara you have to use a citrus based gel.

If a cleaner doesn’t state that they’ll do individual stain removal in addition to using their machine, then you will by default, get this inferior ‘Maintenance Clean’.

Customers are often left disappointed with the results, because they thought they were simply getting a bargain. It’s only a Full Clean which thoroughly washes deep down into your carpets and removes ALL the in-grained dirt, pollens, fungus, allergens, smoke, fur, hair, bacteria and

“Be aware of low price ‘deals’ and offers that appear too good to be true”

DIY-Cleaning your carpet right  *By Steve Samoska
If you want to clean your home or business carpet or furniture and you cannot afford a professional steam carpet cleaner with a truck mount unit follow these rules I made to insure you won’t create a bigger mess on your carpet or upholstery.
Also don’t forget that to make sure your warranty (upholstery, carpet) you must clean with a  Professional Certified Carpet Cleaners at least every 18 months with how water extraction (steam) same thing.
1. Take your time thoroughly vacuum Make sure your vacuum filter is clean and vacuum is working properly! Many people vacuum fabrics and the vacuum is not working properly this is a common thing. Vacuum the carpet and upholstery all areas you want to clean- make sure you take your time doing it.  Most of the soil on carpets is deep down soil, dander, and pollen.
2. Place all furniture and small belongings off the carpet if you want to do the proper job. Unless your cleaning the upholstery You can leave heavy stuff and focus on the traffic patterns.  I don’t recommend this because carpet is used as a filter for dust in your home in you will still have a ton of dust in your carpet or upholstery best to move everything if you want the job done right.
3. Pre-treat the areas with detergents traffic lane cleaner. Do not use soap or shampoo products PERIOD! Your carpet or upholstery will get 10 times faster soiled and 99% of the time the spots will come back.  I always say use a couple teaspoons on powder tide no liquid ever! that is soapy. You can use your shoe to kick the spots out don’t use brushes or scrub this breaks down the fibers and wears the carpet out this will cause the stains to be set in also later if you call a professional to get them out. This is very common. When I go to a house
4. After spraying you want to leave the product dwell at least 15 minutes which should be a detergent remember those soap or shampoo products this will only damage the carpet or upholstery and cause it to wrap it re-soil and 95% of the time the spots usually come back.
5. Heat up boiling water and rinse the carpet thoroughly with the boiling water and your machine remember only use water as hot as you can get it. If you are using this to clean upholstery you can use warm to hot water that boiling thiswill make sure you have no shrinkage of material and no colors bleed. If the upholstered fabric is a woven fabric or micro suede you can use the hot water steam boiling and you won’t have to worry.
6. Make sure you start from the back cleaning the carpet and work your way out of the room this way carpet is not walked on in the fiber stand up as they dry which will make the drying time a lot quicker especially if you put fans down when you’re done which is important when you’re cleaning yourself with a smaller machine because this machine does not have the vacuum left to extract the water that is put into the carpet or fabric when cleaning your furniture or upholstery you should always make sure that you do the corners edges and round areas around arms back some couches which a lot of times this is where the damage occurs because the tools that they give you when you rent the machine do not suck the water out thoroughly and usually cause water rings that do not come out of most furniture fabrics.
8. Make sure you use fans to dry these fabrics this is one of the most important steps. If you can borrow fans or rent them to dry your fabrics and carpet can even borrow them from family members and friends or neighbors. This will make sure the carpets don’t turn brown from being wet too long or get a mildew smell. Also this will make sure your furniture does not have water rings all over them or color bleeding this is one of the most important steps when you’re cleaning your own carpet yourself or upholstery.
Please feel free to call me if you have any questions for you need some help I would be gladly able to walk you through it.

Tips on Making A Good Carpet Choice

area rug cleaning

When you select carpet for your home, you have many things to consider and many different options to weigh as well. Carpets come in many different colors and styles, textures and fibers, and there are many different qualities to choose from as well.

The two most popular choices of carpet today are the loop pile and cut pile. Loop pile has individual strands of yarn pulled through the backing of the carpet twice, which creates a small loop.

The cut pile has the loop cut at the top, leaving tufts of yarn that stand straight up. Cut pile is normally more durable than looped pile. Cut piles come in many styles, such as shag, textured, saxony, and velvet. Loop pile choices include berber, cable, or sisal. For high traffic areas, loop pile is an excellent choice.

One of the factors with choosing your carpet is the cost. Even though there is nothing more luxurious than having wool carpeting in your home, most of us can't afford wool. If you are able to afford wool carpeting you'll find that even though it costs more
to install, it will prove to be far more superior than any other type of carpeting. There is no man made carpet fiber that come close to the durability,
rich look, or even the feel of wool - which can also last for 30 years or more.

Acrylic carpeting is very similar to wool, and sometimes referred to as man made wool. It is resistant to moisture, fading, mildew, crushing, and staining, although it isn't recommended for high traffic areas.

Nylon carpeting is also popular, as it is recommended for high traffic areas. Nylon is one of the most expensive types of synthetic fibers, although it is still cheaper than wool.

Olefin is a low cost carpet material, often used for indoor or outdoor carpeting. Olefin is colorfast and strong, very easy to clean. One of the draw backs to olefin is that it can easily be crushed.

Another consideration you'll have is the color and patterns of the carpet. Light carpeting colors help to create a spacious effect, making the room appear to be larger. Light color carpets will of course, show much more soil than dark colors.

If you have pets around the house or little kids, dark colors may be your best bet. There are many different varieties of dark colors, which is great for those interested in style. Dark colors are ideal for stains or pets, as they don't show soiled areas near as much as light colored carpets.

If you end up selecting light colors around pets or little kids, you'll find yourself having to work twice as hard to make stains less noticeable. Itwould be easier and also smarter to select a dark color and make it easier on yourself.
